William Harrison 'Bill' Bennett, age 80 died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at home in Mission, Texas. A former Burlington resident he was a winter Texan. His home was at 173 Lake Warren Dr, Monmouth, IL. He was born June 26, 1927, in Dallas City, Il. the son of Lewis Harrison and Oria Olia 'Ash' Bennett. He married Wanda Lea Peel April 17, 1949 in Nauvoo, Il. She died May 1, 1985. Then he married Mary Lou Stoneking Sept 6, 1986. He attended school in Burlington. Then joined the US Army in 1945 at the age of 17, with parent permission and was stationed in Japan, was then discharged at the end of the war. He joined the Lehigh Leopold company on August 12, 1950 starting as a machine operator and moving to a cabinet maker. He retired from there June 25, 1989. He loved working with wood and was very skilled at it. He also enjoyed his own home wood shop and was always making things for family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing in his healthier years. Survivors include his wife Mary, one daughter Diana Lowe of Mt. Pleasant, Ia. two sons Dale Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Ia. and Larry Bennett of Muscatine, Ia. and one sister Darlene Rubey of Gainesville. Mo. He has six grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He also has four step children Michael Steines of Alpha, Il. Rick Steines of Lyles, Tenn. Sheri Hanson of Little York, Il. and David Steines of Galesburg, Il. He has 15 step grandchildren and fourteen step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters and three brothers. He will be cremated at the Ric Brown Family Funeral Home , Mission, Texas and returned to Iowa with a service at a later date.
